8 site owners out of 10 are still thinking that SEO is a quick done job. And they refuse to believe the truth. The sad part of the story is that those site owners are the easy target (victims) of unscrupulous SEO workers 'wannabees' whom are happily making money from the ignorance of those site owners. It is very easy, all they have to say is "Yes I can bring your site to the first page of google results in just 1 month!", they do it using Black Hat techniques, they get paid and then, they disappear... they will be running far away when the site gets banned by google... and the site owner just don't understand what is happening :), too late, he just was screwed up! :) How to avoid this situation? - Easy, first, you as a site owner, must understand that SEO is not a quick job, it can take months to see the first results and years to have a consolidation on the achieved positions in order to not to get outranked easily. Once you understand that, you should verify the intended techniques to use and must be clear that you don't want to use any BlackHat technique in order to avoid google penalization. The usual period time necessary to get your site on the first page of google is between 2 - 6 months depending on various factors, such number of competitors, keywords used, domain name... Do not believe, NEVER! when someone tells you that your site is going to show on the first page of google by the next week, IT IS A LIE, or BlackHat is going to be used... now you know the consequences. Asking for samples - As an employer you have to always ask for samples before hiring someone. Live samples easy verifiable through google search and of course verify if the work has been done by the person you are planning to hire. Link Building - I am only going to mention this technique because it is the most easy way to cheat a site owner. It is very easy to post your link(s) around the web in so many websites, forums, blogs ... , once is done, the cheater SEO worker is going to send you the list of all the websites where your link has been submitted and posted, that is great, you see the links are properly posted ... but guess what, those links are useless because they have submitted your links to pages containing the "NOFOLLOW" tag, and that means you have paid this job for nothing, because links are not going to be followed nor indexed by google. :), So be careful here! That's all for today folks! Good Luck!
